Tangerine Bowl

Yes, it’s true! The University of Kansas football team went to their first bowl game since 1995. As the campus celebrated this great victory, I to celebrated because I was invited to go. The Marching Jayhawks, KU’s marching band asked me to fill my baton twirler position and once again be a part of their fantastic band.

How could I turn down this once in a lifetime opportunity (literally)? I packed my bags and I was off to Orlando.

The trip was filled with exciting events. The band chartered two planes and Saturday, Dec. 19 at 6:00 a.m. I was in the air and on my way. That evening after everyone finally arrived and were settled we had dinner at the Pirates Adventure Dinner Theater. The next morning we had an early marching practice and then we spent the day at Disney World! Not only did we get to play but the band was in the Mickey’s Christmas Parade which I led! Leading the parade around Cinderella’s Castle and down Mickey Mouse Avenue was such a memorable experience.

The next day was game day. After rehearsal the band dressed and prepared for our teams pep rally. With a variety of other appearances we finally arrived at the stadium and got settled in the stands. After sharing the field with North Carolina States= band our pre-game and half time performances were flawless. I wish I could say the same about our football team. But, regardless of the score I was incredibly proud to be a Jayhawk!
